2007-2-1 Santa Cruz Thanks for the sashimi

Thanks for the sashimi.
It’s traditional to send a farewell message to people that you worked with so that they can remain in contact. Silicon Valley exists because of the network of human talent. There was a time when the message invariably included the line “so long and thanks for all the fish”, [the message left by the dolphins when they departed Planet Earth just before it was demolished to make way for a hyperspatial express route, as described in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/So_Long,_and_Thanks_for_All_the_Fish]

I’ll be sending my fish message at work tomorrow.

My wife, Marty and son are in Tucson attending the the gem and mineral show. She left a to-do list for our daughter, Alisha that ended with the following:
“I love you as far as the moon and back …. as far as Okinawa wrapped a billion times around the moon and back. You are such a joy to me… and Molly such a miracle. My heart will be with you, Molly and Sterling as I travel the globe. take care of each other and know that you are all held tightly in my heart.
I love you
Mama

2007-01-30 Santa Cruz

February 2nd, the end of this week, will be my last day as a Microsoft employee. I’ve been working as a software test engineer in Silicon Valley for 18 years. On February 5, I’ll be flying to Okinawa with my wife and son for a 3 month trip. The main purpose of the trip is to work on the okinawa.com website and to renourish my soul.

Postwar Okinawan Artists

Do you own or know of anyone who owns paintings by Okinawan artists ADANIYA Masayoshi, ASHIMINE Kanemasa, TAMANAHA Seikichi, GUSHUKEN, Itoku and ASHITOMI Chosho? An exhibit of photos and paintings by these artists, who were part of the Nishimui Artists Colony after the war (1948) and who later formed the artist group GONINTEN in the early 50’s is slated for early next year in Berkeley, CA. If you are interested in loaning your art pieces for this exhibit please contact Jane Dulay via email: janedulay at sbcglobal.net
