Cherry Blossoms in Yogi Park

At noon, Art returns from his morning karate class. I’ve been working on waxes all morning, the day is clear and sunny and. Art suggests that we ride our bicycles to Yogi Park to see the cherry blossoms. Early in February, the Cherry Blossom Festival is held in Yogi Park but unfortunately we were in the midst of getting settled and missed the festival.

Walking in the Rain
The weather here certainly differs from one day to the next. It is almost a relief waking to gray skies and drizzle. John is sick and and needs time to recuperate and I need some time to create new jewelry designs. Art has been going to Karate on Tuesday and Thursday nights, but this morning he goes to a 9:30 A.M. class at a different dojo.

Hina Matsuri Girl’s Day Festival

March 3rd, the 3rd day of the 3rd month, is Hina Matsuri, also called Girl’s Day Fesitval or the Doll Festival. This event is celebrated privately with a display of dolls representing the royal court. Dolls are put on display up to several weeks before March third but are put away no later than March 4th.

Okinawan Karate and Kobudo

Okinawa KarateOkinawa is known as the birthplace of Karate. While karate means "empty hand", kobudo is the practice of using classical weapons such as bo (staff), sai (short trident), tonfa (handled club), kama (sickle), and nunchaku.
Th lineage of Okinawa Karate includes a number of schools including Naha-te, Shuri-te, and Tomari-te and various styles including Shorin-ryu, Goju-ryu, and Uechi-ryu.
The Okinawa Karatedo Kobudo Support Center is the Okinawa based non-profit organization. They publish a monthly newsletter and are very helpful to people who want to visit Okinawa to train.

If you are visiting Okinawa to do karate training, you should visit the Shureido martial arts supply store in Naha. The equipment is expensive but it’s the best.
