color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Shunten through Eiso<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" ar-sa=\"\" mso-bidi-language:=\"\" mso-fareast-language:=\"\" mso-ansi-language:=\"\" mso-font-kerning:=\"\" roman=\"\" new=\"\" times=\"\" mso-bidi-font-family:=\"\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0);\">The Shunten line only lasted 73 years, passing through his son Shunbajunki, and grandson Gihon.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Although Shunten`s line was short, it marked a significant role in the self identity of the Ryukyu people and relations with the state of Yamato, or Japan.<\/span><br \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt; line-height: 200%;\" class=\"MsoPlainText\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">The reason for this is because of a love interest between an Ozato warlord`s daughter and Tametomo Minamotono, a legendary Japanese Samurai of (imperial Japanese decent).<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt; line-height: 200%;\" class=\"MsoPlainText\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"><span style=\"\">              <\/span>During the reign of Gihon, there was a great famine and plague.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>It was so bad in fact that half the population past on.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Perhaps taking this travesty as a sign from heaven, or being a sign of weak resolve, King Gihon made a choice; On his direct orders, similar to a Cinderella story, which took a glass slipper in search of a queen, the court of Gihon searched for another of great virtue.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>They searched for a new king.<\/span><span antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" mso-hansi-font-family:=\"\" mso-ascii-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">&#12288;&#12288;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">From the district of Urasoe, in the <\/span><st1:place><st1:placetype><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">village<\/span><\/st1:placetype><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> of <\/span><st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Iso<\/span><\/st1:placename><\/st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">, they found Eiso, whose nickname was `the Young Sun`.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>King Gihon imidiately put the 25 year old Eiso to work as regeant of the kingdom in his stead.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Not only did the famine and plague stop, but a bumper harvest was recorded.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Seven years later, King Gihon finally retired to Kunigami, abdicating the throne to Eiso.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>The year was 1259.<span style=\"\">  <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt; line-height: 200%;\" class=\"MsoPlainText\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"><span style=\"\">              <\/span>In 1260, <\/span><st1:place><st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Iheya<\/span><\/st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> <\/span><st1:placetype><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Island<\/span><\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Kume<\/span><\/st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> <\/span><st1:placetype><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Island<\/span><\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">, as well as the <\/span><st1:place><st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Kerema<\/span><\/st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> <\/span><st1:placetype><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Island<\/span><\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> group became part of the Kingdom.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Amami Ooshima was included in the kingdom three years later.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>King Eiso, was introduced to Buddism by Zenkanzo, a monk from Kamakura, that period`s military capital of Japan.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>He was very impressed and became a convert.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>In Urasoe, he built <\/span><st1:place><st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Houdara<\/span><\/st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> <\/span><st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Yamagokurakuji<\/span><\/st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;\">.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>This is the first Buddism temple built in the <\/span><st1:place><st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Ryukyu<\/span><\/st1:placename><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">1291, When Chinese imperial forces of Emporer Fubirai consisting of 6,000 men attempted to invade <\/span><st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Okinawa<\/span><\/st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"> but were repelled.<span style=\"\">  <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt 63.75pt; text-indent: 0mm; line-height: 200%;\" class=\"MsoPlainText\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" mso-bidi-font-family:=\"\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">Three years later with 2,000 men, Chinese forces of the new Emperor attacked and were repelled for a second time.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>This time however, 130 Ryukyuan people were taken prisoner back to <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">China<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\">.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt; line-height: 200%;\" class=\"MsoPlainText\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); line-height: 200%;\"><span style=\"\">              <\/span>After 40 years on the throne, and saving his country many times in many ways, King Eiso, the Young Sun, passed on.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>The year was 1299.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt; Eiso, Taisei, Eiji, Tamagusuku, and the boy king Seii.<span style=\"\">  <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt; line-height: 200%;\" class=\"MsoPlainText\"><strong style=\"\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" mso-fareast-font-family:=\"\" mso-bidi-font-size:=\"\" antiqua=\"\" book=\"\" style=\"font-size: 12pt;
