In 1609, the Ryuykyu Kingdom became a vassal to the Satsuma Clan, expecting King Shounei to pay tribute to the shogunate, which meant traveling 2000KM from Naha to Edo.<!--more--><br \/>\nApproximately 100 people from Okinawa traveled to Edo, which became hundreds when including the Satsuma Clan. For many, the Okinawans wearing costumes of Chinese taste and playing rojikaku (an istrument of Chinese origin) looked like foreigners.
