I hope you enjoy this tribute to the Ryukyus.<br \/><!--more--><br \/>RYUKYU IS MY ABODE <\/p>\n<p>Shark toothed splendor,<br \/>\nAqua-blue calm deep,<br \/>\nSurrounds this archipelago<br \/>\nOf praying mantis form.<\/p>\n<p>Shallows laden with cucumber,<br \/>\nBlack and undulating,<br \/>\nCoral rich, but dirt poor<br \/>\nWith foul stench rising.    <\/p>\n<p>Sanshin softly plays,<br \/>\nSplitting the dense air.<br \/>\nUchinanchu (oo-chin-nan-chew)jabber native tongue<br \/>\nTo compliment the instrument.    <\/p>\n<p>I drift upon the music,<br \/>\nLike a willow leaf upon a breeze.<br \/>\nYet the local speak breaks the spell,<br \/>\nAnd sends me hurtling to the ground.<br \/>\nMy senses reel from overdose,<br \/>\nThe Reeking, the Pleasure discombobulates.  <\/p>\n<p>Is this Paradise,  Or some kind of sweltering Hell?<br \/>\nContradiction is my home,<br \/>\nI live in the chasm of East and West,<br \/>\nIn subtropical ways of hazy days and clammy nights,<br \/>\nRyukyu is my abode.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a Free Verse Poem that I composed in 2002 about life in Okinawa.
