Profiles of Giants of the Ryukyuan Music Performing Arts <\/font><\/span><\/strong>⑧<\/span><\/strong><\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ancho Nomura (1805-1871)<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Founder of Nomura Ryu(Style) (uta-sanshin)<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nomura was born in Sakiyama (some say Akabira), Shuri, on <\/span>June 2nd<\/sup>, 1805<\/span><\/st1:date>. <\/span>He was on of the premier students of Chinen Sensei. <\/span>He emphasized a more natural singing style rather than the more elaborate singing style of his teacher and fellow student, Shingen Afuso. <\/span><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/span>On orders from the last Ryukyuan King, Sho Tai, Master Nomura began the process of editing the Chinen KunKunShi. <\/span>Accompanying him on this task were; Shinshin Matsumura (Main editor), Kishaba, and Seiki Yamauchi. <\/span>Highlights of the changes could be seen,<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

1)<\/font> <\/span><\/span><\/span>One, in new print-like writing style of the KunKunShi notes themselves and,<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

2)<\/font> <\/span><\/span><\/span>The spacing of the notes and addition of standard border lines and all accompanying rhythm markings as well as singing phrases became more orderly and clear to the reader.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

The three volume revision was finally completed in August, 1865. <\/span>It included 150 pieces, and the name of it is Kintei KunKunShi. <\/span>This version is the model and foundation of all Nomura Ryu KunKunShi found today. <\/span>The heirs of the Nomura Style were previously mentioned Matsumura, Kishaba, and Yamauchi. <\/span>He is represented by the many associations which bear his name.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Classical <\/span>Ryukyuan<\/span><\/st1:placename> <\/span>Music<\/span><\/st1:placename> <\/span>Nomura<\/span><\/st1:placename> <\/span>School<\/span><\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> Matsumura Togenkai (Established 1960)<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Classical <\/span>Ryukyuan<\/span><\/st1:placename> <\/span>Music<\/span><\/st1:placename> <\/span>Nomura<\/span><\/st1:placename> <\/span>School<\/span><\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> Traditional Music Association (Established in 1982)<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Other highlights of his sanshin career were that he served three Ryukyuan Kings, and he also directed and led the last performance of the Unkansen. <\/span>He passed on, <\/span>July 2nd<\/sup>, 1871<\/span><\/st1:date>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
